Multiple bets ~ Doubles, Trebles and accumulators
A multi bet, also known as a multiple, accumulator, parlay or all-up, is a bet that involves selection of simultaneous two or more outcomes in two or more events. The bet is a win if all the prediction goes as chosen; if one or more of the selected outcomes does not occur then the bet automatically loses.
Multiple bets are riskier but is a common way of raking in huge payoffs in betting by considering a very small stake, this is because the likelihood of all the selections winning is much lower.
Multi bets- gain more money by predicting a couple of chain matches
A couple of multiple bets will be discussed here including Doubles, Treble and accumulator. Soccer wil be used for illustration with the help of a couple of matches across various major leagues.
As said though, you need all bets to win – you can’t take the cash midway.
There is normally a large degree of luck involved trying to predict more than one match on one single bet and if it pays off then the chances are very slim-don’t expect to win every time!
Multiple bets give better returns than single bets
Types of Multiple bets
If you have two legs then it is called a double, three legs a treble, then fourfolds, fivefolds and so on. Let us discuss a number in details.
Double
This is a multiple bet consisting of two selections, both of which much win to gain a return; if only one win is recorded then the bet is lost.
Here, the two selections are made and if the first wins everything that would have been returned is then used as stake for second bet.
For instance the live games on a Sunday you may fancy Everton to beat Liverpool (odds 3.00) in the first game and Arsenal to Manchester United in the second (decimal odds 2.00) and so you have a Ksh 100 double on that outcome. You need both results to happen as you predicted for your bet to win; if they do, your payout is Ksh 300 (the first bet pays Ksh 300 including your stake and the Ksh 300 is then put on the 2nd bet, paying Ksh Ksh 600 including the Ksh 300) for an overall profit of Shs 500 effectively odds of 5.00
The multiple bets must be on separate events hence not relate, a scenario referred to as Related Contingencies for example predicting that Marshal to score first and Man United to win 1-0 has a price that is quoted by the bookmaker independently of the two separate “legs”. You cannot take the odds for Marshal to score first (say 4.00) and have that in a double with United to win 1-0 (odd 7.00) resulting to odd of 28.0 because those outcomes are related to each other.
Football scores in the table below demonstrate winnings and loosing in a case of double multiple bet:
Home Team |
Score |
Away Team |
Chelsea |
2 – 1 |
Southampton |
Arsenal |
3 – 2 |
Manchester United |
Winning
Assuming a unit stake of Ksh 100 on Chelsea to win at odds 3.50 and Arsenal 5.80 the winnings would break down as follows:
- Returns = Ksh 100 * (3.50 ) * (5.80) = Ksh 2,300
- Profit = Returns – Stake = 2,200
Loosing
Assuming a unit stake of Ksh 100 on Southampton 6.40 to win at odds 3.50 and Manchester United to win at odds of 3.24 the returns would break down as follows:
- The bet of Arsenal to win has lost, therefore this bet returns £0
- Profit/Loss = Returns – Stake = Ksh -100
Double – A double is a single bet placed on 2 different selections. Both selections must be correct for the bet to be successful. A double bet is basically combining those actions into one bet.
Multiple bets
Treble
This is a multiple bet consisting of 3 selections, all of which much win to gain a return. In this case the returns from the first are rolled over to the second, then the returns from the second rolled over to the third. Larger returns can be achieved using this bet at the expense of increased risk as all it takes is one loosing selection for the bet to return nothing.
An example of the same is illustrated below with the La Liga fixture planned for the weekend
Home Team |
Score |
Away Team |
Sevilla |
2 – 2 |
Barcelona |
Atheltico Bilbao |
0-3 |
Valencia |
Athletico Madrid |
2 – 1 |
Real Madrid |
Winning
Assuming a unit stake of Ksh 100 on Barcelona to win at odds 2.20 and Valencia to win as odds of 3.80 and Athletico Madrid to win at odds of 2.5 the winnings would break down as follows:
- Returns = Ksh 100 * (2.20) * (1.80) * (2.5) = Ksh 2,090
- Profit = Returns – Stake = Ksh 1,990
Loosing
Using the same bet as above except instead of betting on Barcelona, the Draw was chosen the bet returns would break down like follows:
- The bet of Aston Villa to draw failed to win, therefore this bet returns £0
- Profit/Loss = Returns – Stake = -Ksh 100
- Treble– A treble is a single bet placed on 3 different selections. All 3 selections must be correct for the bet to be successful.
- With either a ‘double’ or a ‘treble’ bet, if one of your selections is not correct, your payout will be zero.
Accumulator bet
This represents Four or more, in an accumulator bet is one where you have to pick multiple outcomes correctly to get the payoff. The more you get right, the more you win and your gains are a return only when all parts win
With an accumulator bet all selections need to to come up trumps in order to payout. Naturally, the more selections that you make, the bigger the risk of losing, but the greater the payout if you land it. The bonus of accumulators is that although they are hard to land, there can be a huge reward for a small stake. That is the punter’s dream, big profits for small stakes, but the odds are always highly against you in an accumulator. Naming just three correct results out of 10 Premier League matches on the weekend, for example, can be a tough call.
Accumulator bets will keep you on edge until all of your results are in and you’ve either won it all or lost it big. Your mates might have found you a bit twitchy before, but it’s nothing to how you’ll be with a bet accumulator on the line.
The advantage of an accumulator is that winnings are much higher at the expense of increased risk, only a single selection need lose for the entire bet to lose.
Multiple Bets
Advantages of Multiples Betting
Top on the list is you can win huge amounts with very little risk as ilistrated above whwrre a stake on Ksh 100 put in a multiple bet resulted into Ksh 800 after combining the 2 bets. The same amount split and placed on the various bets would yield very low returns compared to the multiple bet,
Apart from the enormous returns(if you predict right) Multiple betting goes a great way in helping you have an interest in more than one single match without risking a large amount of money. With multiples of as little as Ksh 50, one can afford to cover several outcomes.
Disadvantages to Multiples Betting
Naturally, when you are betting at high odds you are less likely to win. It’s easy to believe that a football team at odds of 3.00 must win and therefore an accumulator (multiple) that has five bets of 3.00 but that pays out at almost 15.00 looks like a great bet. A 15.00 bet, a massive favourite will normally win right? You have to remember that you need all five to win and that remains around a 7/1 chance.
Happy betting!
